Evigence have successfully developed sensors for monitoring the shelf life of perishable products.
More often than not, waste is a direct consequence of being in the dark on a product’s true remaining shelf life. Evigence an ECR Food Waste Finalist from 2018, is on a mission to eradicate waste and restore trust to use-by dates. They have developed sensors for monitoring the shelf life of perishable products. The platform offers visual freshness sensors that change colour to indicate the product’s remaining shelf life based on its actual aggregate temperature history. It enables retailers and suppliers to adopt them on a unit level in order to monitor and manage supply chains of temperature-sensitive foods. The sensors can also be read by smartphones, creating digital data points of actual remaining shelf life at each point in the supply chain, which can be fed into distributed ledger databases.
